You can pick up pretty much anything off the jetty at Amity Point...I've got Yellowtail Kingfish and Mackerel off of there.

There are a few spots on the south gorge where you can get down to the water that are also fairly well protected from swell. Try first light with some livies (usually you can pick some up with a bait jig) and hang on, there are some monster kingies around those rocks. The rocks outside of the surf club on main beach also fish well for things like dart flathead bream, and I have picked up a few bream over the kilo mark on softies there.

    Hope that helps

You can’t miss it! Its the main set of rocks at point look out, if you stand on the rocks at the pointlookout surf club on main beach looking out to sea and look to your left that’s it. I like to fish on a little platform that’s on the Southside where the crevice runs out. That platform is fairly well protected from the swell and i have fished it when there was some big swell but always keep an eye out and be careful when fishing rocks. Oh and good luck I have only ever landed the little fellas but have been done in by some monsters and I usually fish that area with 50lb gear

    Re: North Stradbroke Island

hi all...... was on the island oct 1-3.

plenty of tailor on main beach at the cutting that runs back through to dunwich. can access this from dunwich in any vehicle......follow signs to brown lake and dont turn off to lake just head straight through and park up just past the bins.

south gorge.....no kingies about on the day i was out there but was plenty of mac tuna cutting the bait up....landed one on a small raider. butter bream were in ther millions and it didnt help that there was a bunch of butterbream keepers(we all know about them...haha) feeding them right where i was trying to fish. i think they were horrified when i landed a bream well over the 2lb mark on a gulp 3" shrimp in natural and preceeded to take a quick photo with the missus, and let him swim away.....beautiful fish....very golden in colour....just very healthy lookin all round.

Amity Point.....plenty of the common size bream around but the big ones that had showed in there numbers on the beaches in the previous couple of months had moved on. Plenty of hardy heads at jetty....easily taken on bait jigs.as well as lots of pike....had some fun with them on the sx 40....ended up tryin to get the lure back to the jetty without catchin one....impossible. early....VERY early mornin tailor off the end of the jetty on X-WRAP and sx40...,..most were very very small....only one legal taken but was till thrown back of course......

    HIGHLIGHT OF THE TRIP.......

amity point jetty 330am last day there......just about to take off to pt lookout for sunrise photos....plenty of tailor being taken when from under the jetty i watched a big fat bodied "TAILOR???" chomped my sx40 off without me feelin a thing....was funny to watch.....so i chucked the X-WRAP on, lure was at end of retrieval and BANG....he tried again....this time the lure was stopping him from chomping through my leader.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....he was off ....and i was . 10 min later....landed my first Amity Point GT in 15years off fishin the joint....not that i'd ever targeted them there......quite often caught at the coffee rocks off pt lookout...shag etc. he pushed close to the 50cm mark and all in all just topped off a short but bloody fantastic trip.

all n all had a good time.....wasnt to serious because i was meant to be showing the girl around....not spendin all my time fishing....so it was strictly no bait....just HB and SP....for short sessions.....until someone went to sleep anyway...hahaha

good luck to yas over there fellas....great place....its a shame alot of ppl continue destroy such a beautiful place......fish quantities have decreased drastically in the years i've fished there....hopefully the future shall brighten.

If i was fishin amity with a yak i'd be pullin lures about the basin(southern end of caravan park) sandy spits and weed beds for miles.....surely get a few lizards.....or live bait with a float and just work along the rock walls to the bar.....the Long Tails love it through there.....u'll see em comin as the Hardy heads do backflips and sommersaults as the come through chewin em up. found live gar to be the bait of choice......incoming tide....amity jetty.....burley with bread and cast a bait jig south off jetty on drop off and wind back jiggin.....sure to pick up a few.

    best of luck

    Re: North Stradbroke Island

Hey i'm going to Amity Point Pier for 3 days maybe and wondering what bait to use on my Penn Ultragraph 6602 SPM fitted with 12lb line. I also got a Fish Striker Jarvis Walker 12 foot fitted with 25lb line and what bait or lure to use with that. I'm new to Amity Point Pier and I could use with some help and what sort of fish to target around there...

    Cheers Tom

    Re: North Stradbroke Island

    Hi there fellow Ausfishers,

So I am heading to Straddie for Christmas with the thousands of others I expect will be there. Hoping for some decent weather and some hungry fish.
Will be throwing slugs and surface lures off any rocks I can around the top end...hoping to catch anything with a mouth. Also keen to float some livies out as well, fingers crossed for some action.
Does anyone have first hand experience off the rocks around Chrissy/New Years? I expect any accessible rocks will be pretty busy, is this the case?
I'll give it a crack before sunrise and after sundown, hopefully will increase my chances of getting a spot on the rocks and also catching a fish.

If anyone has any words of experience, I'd love to hear from you.

    Thanks,
    Craig

I am sitting at the Amity Bungalows as we speak, I am here with the missus for 4 days.
Going to try my luck with a variety of SP (never used them here before) off the rock wall, will let you know how we go.
