Where to Mount my Outboard when using Cartopper???

    Hello Camping chatboard gurus.....

I am facing a little problem.......... I am setting my Troopy up to carry a cartopper tinny, and want to carry the outboard outside the vhicle.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding this???

I don't want to carry it in the roof rack, which leaves the rear bar as the only option. I have a spare tow tongue at home that I am thinking about modifying it to accommodate an outboard rack. I have attached a VERY basic drawing of what I was thinking about for the outboard carrier.

Short of shelling out the $$$ for a Kaymar outboard carrier, does anyone have any other ideas?

    Cheers.

Hmmm had considered this, with what to do with my 5 Hp.
Was thinking laying it down horizontal in a checker plate tool box just behind the bumper, might have to make it so it swings away from the tail gate.
But at least it would be lock up.

I like roughas idea if your engine is small enough to put in the box (away from prying eyes) if you mount this on your spare tongue it would be easy to remove as well.

Which ever way you go make sure you can still see your number plate. If not by a auxillary plate from QT. Saves getting a fine

    Ed,
A mate of mine once carried the spare on the roof rack and made up a bracket to fit where the spare wheel fits on the back and mounted it there. As it was fixed to the back door it was never in the road when the back doors were opened. Hope this is of some use.

    Ed,
How about on the floor of the troopy, well padded of course. Then mount a piece of ply resting on the seats above it. If you do not have seats then a timber support for each end of the ply would be easy to do.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

4wd systems sell one of those.

Perhaps 'borrow' some ideas from their advertising shots?

I used to mount my 5hp on the bull bar of my lwb landrover .As it had a winch , there was enough room behind the bar to safely carry it.
Dont know if that would be legal these days .
    cheers Terry

Shano, once you've sorted out the mounting system. If it is external of the vehicle make sure you get a cover for it as bits fall off on rough roads and it can spoil any trip, I lost a prop when I had an outboard on the bullbar.
    Never found it ,

Ed, I had the very same problem also with my Troopy. I sought every idea, but I did not like the motor inside the troopy. The motor is a 6hp Suzuki about 25 kg for memory. I also was advised that setting it up on the tow tung was not a very good idea as to have it built to be strong enough especially over rough gravel roads that I travel a lot, would require it to be braced some way & that would prevent me from opening the rear doors, unless I removed it all. Mate I went every where to try to get something built & was advised against the tow tung idea. I bit the bullet & made the decision to get the Kaymar twin wheel bar. I had a bracket made to fit the bar from where I bought the bar & couldn't be happier.
