By the time you have finished farting around with them, it would be better to buy outriggers.
I don't know how much the fittings are, but I have recently changed my two poles (Shneider glass 2 piece 11 foot) for $105 the pair.
Whaleoil where aboputs did you pick up your poles for $105.00 for the pair?
That might be a better idea then just buy the bases and rigging kit
cheers

I ordered them through a tackle store which is part of a chain of stores. You might pick up the fittings at a boat wrecker?
I have also seen them at the large tackle store in Gladstone, well priced.
I must admit, I was very surprised at how cheap they were.
In saying that guys,
We often charter boats in our holiday - obviously they are set up for cruising, and not fishing. If anyone does have any ideas, diagrams etc on some do it yourself outriggers that wouldn't damage someone elses boat, then I would be interested.
Thanks
Quintrex II check the Reelax web site, they have "outrigger rod holders" that fit into a standard rod holder and just hold your rod at the right angle. Seems an ideal item for you to take when you charter a boat.
I may of help. I have available brand new complete sets of 15' fiberglass telescopic outriggers complete with bases and rigging. Available black poles or white poles with blue trimming. Great value at $380.00/set plus shipping. I am the importer based in Sydney and I can email pics to anyone interested.
I did a basic one on my centre console. I don,t use my beach rods anymore as I fish from the boat nowadays, I bolted a pvc beach rod holder onto the centre console so that it sat horizontally across the console, the rod slides in and you set the eggbeater to whatever drag setting you want and away you go. The rod combo slips out when not needed and can be stowed or left at home. It also means I don't have to drive the boat looking behind me as the rod is in front of me either to the right or left. Don't know how basic or proffessional you wanted it, hope this helps.
