    Splitrings on lures

Gday all,Just a quick question.Would i be right in thinking that you could remove the splitring from the front eyelet of a lure if you are tying a loop knot anyway?I know some lures have sharp edges on the lead eyelet but most dont and the manufacturers still put splitrings on.Ta Ben.

I hate those damn things!!! I always pull them off unless the eyelet is sharp. Quite a few times I have lost lures because the line works its way through the ring!

they are not real good when you are trying to remove one off the hook which is stuck hard and deep in the nuckle of a big toe while the boat is rocking!

    Yeah Ben,
I always take the split ring off. The lure manufacturer could save themselves some dough (as minimal as it would be) and in return we could get the lure a tad cheaper as well if they were not put on. Sometimes they're a pain in the as$ to get off.
Perfection loop straight to the lure is the go.

    Cheers, Jeff.

Funny every one else takes them off while I fit one onto the H.Bs that I use. I use RMG Scoripan 150 that dives to 3.5 mt for Jews off the rocks. For me I feel that adding a split ring adds to the lures movement through the water. I have never had a problem with the line working it's way through the split ring

yep, this happened to me recently also. My favourite old Rebel spoonbill minnow is now floating around somewhere at the Pin after the leader loop knot worked it's way out of the split ring. From now on, I will be taking the front rings off my HB lures if using thin mono leader and a loop knot.
