Fished on Bakes' Cairns Custom Craft with Lucas aboard.
The run up Friday.
Boat on the beach.
Prefish day Saturday. 59cm Pearly, 84cm Snapper and Scott's first Cobe and legal Red. Saw Sempre out there.
First day of the comp and a 79cm Snapper we weighed at 3.7kg before all the 8+s came in. It was on a soft plastic. Good feed of Maoris, Hussar and Snapper.
Next day and a Jobbie that was 400gms off a daily prize at 10.9kg. Also the Spangly on a plastic. Good feed of Pearlies. Dropped a good Snapper on the gaff. Also a good Cobe that fought like the prize winning Snapper.
Change of tactics the next day and we were desperate for live bait. Ended up south of the Maheno looking but drew a blank. With the wind and the current this day was a blank.
Change of tactics the next day. Time to head north. Forgot the spare fuel so just stayed local. Did the Cape and North Reef. Trolled to the Gardners and got a 16.9kg Hoo for a daily prize.
North was the call for the last full day of fishing. We had 50 litres of fuel on the deck ready for a big one up past the shoals. Got a 15.55kg Spanish second pass of the shoals. Trolled to a mark we wanted to look at and got the Wahoo. Hit up a new mark for the Kingy then back to the Shoals again to try and stitch up the Wahoo prize after trying a heap of new reef bottom banging. The bottom was dead quiet - even with liveys. Had a screaming hit even better than the 16kg that pulled a heaps of drag, it might have been the one but the hooks pulled. Got the Mahi Mahi a bit later.
