    Question Longlining

    Hey all,

I was wondering does any one know what the laws are about for using longlines recreationally as I am only 16 with a 3.6m tinnie??

    Cheers

No go mate, from Recreational Fishing Guide (QLD):

    Fishing lines

In tidal waters, up to three hand lines and rods with up to six hooks in total (in any configuration) are permitted. An artificial fly or lure is deemed to be equal to one hook.

So in effect, your maximum is 18 hooks distributed as 6 hooks to each of 3 lines.

You have to be in possession of the lines also, so you can't set a line with 6 hooks and bugger off..............it would then cease to be a recreational line and become either a set line or long line for which you'd need a pro licence.

don.t know why you guys are giving him the nod. Can you imagine every man and his dog with a long line in moreton bay????? Rules are rules mate. Better fish in the proper manner. Setting a long line is like catching and undersize fish and keeping it.

oh turn it up. just having a bit of banter with a keen little fisho !! Whitey knows its illegal now and we were, if anything commending him for his eagerness to catch fish.

geez some people take things too bloody serious !

And hardly think this thread will trigger a massive new trend of longlining from 3.6 metre tinnies in the bay..c'mon.....
