    Cheap Combo

I am looking at buying a combo egg beater and 6 or 7 foot light rod. Thinking maybe a 3-6 kg for fishing wello/green.

It seems that most brands have a combo under $100, my question is which is the better?

I am not sure on rod prices alone, but BCF has a Daiwa reel for $59 which looks ok?

As you may have guessed my budget is $100, but I also need new tackle as well, so the further under $100 the better/more tackle I get!

I am probably going to be sticking to baits for the time being, with the intention of at least trying plastics at some stage.

So in general there are Penn or Uglystick combos for around $80 - $100, as well as the daiwa reel for $59 plus some kind of rod?

Any advice? Should I continue to use my general purpose alvey until I have saved a bit more?

    Re: Cheap Combo

if you can wait till yuo0 save a bit more do that.

Otherwise buy what you can afford. K mart just had a 30% off rods reels and combos sale. I bout 3 sticks and 2 combos for a great price. One was a shimano combo that is ideal for sp's. Cost me $54 after the 30% off.

Try there see if its still on, not sure if its still going or not.

what are you targeting with it BrettA

if you are targeting bream and flathead etc BCF have a shakespeare combo 2-4 kg and 3-5 kg graphite rod 6'6" with a spinning reel for $79.95 once you put some fireline 6lb line on it you can tackle almost anything

    look up their web site
    www.bcf.com.au
and go to the shop online
    you'll find it

i just got one on sunday its great for soft plastics

    cheers

    Re: Cheap Combo

Today is the last day for the 30% off @ KMart, and unfortunately pay day is Friday...

According to ##### All Sports seems to have 50% off Shimano Technium rods, what price range would that place them in?

And BCF has a Daiwa Liberty 2500 Spin Reel for $59.95.

It would just be a general purpose fishing rig, we would target whatever was biting.

    Re: Cheap Combo

if you are going to get into plastics get a rod that is 1-3kg line weight or 2-4 kg line weight any heavy and you will have trouble casting the light jig heads

Hey Brett, Layby it at kmart and pick it up on the weekend. The discount should still apply .

Another option is to post what your are after in the Wanted section on the site. You might be able to get a better deal that way.

    Re: Cheap Combo

mate i would avoid all the cheao combos at kmart etc and try to spend a little bit more. I managed to pick up a shimano sedona 2500 and catana 7.0ft soft plastic rod for $109. Its just a case of looking around and crunching shops to beat prices etc. Even though this is a cheap setup its done great. Ive caught all sorts on it from squire, flathead, mangrove jacks, cod, bass, yellas, and its handled all beautifully. And its still as smooth as the day i bought it (just looked after the reel).
In all honesty im a daiwa man now and probably wouldnt buy shimano again however this a great setup and they probably sell better entry level combos than daiwa.

hope that helps mate, but if you can track down a sedona 2500 and catana for under $110 go for it,
