    2 Stonefish In 1 Trip

Went to bribie again early on sun morning to be greeted by a stiff cold 20 knot southerly. We had 2 boatloads of keen fishos ready to peg some plastics around so we braved the early sh!t which proved a good decision. The wind dropped out pretty quick just as the tide was slowing around the bridge. The other boys had a throw on the flats and were rewarded with 2 nice lizards in the early 60's. My mate and I persisted around the bridge with the p stars and finally scored a couple of cod around the 40 mark before things shut down before the tide turned. The others pissed off up the passage chasing flatties but only managed a couple of rats and a small stonefish for darren. The action picked up a little once the tide moved in and we managed a few nice flatties under the bridge and on the flats. While fishing the flats darren hooked up again and this time brought in a much bigger stonie. Two in one session is a top effort and both on placcies. Both boats took home a couple of fish for a feed with the standout plastics being red, white and green wrigglers with the prawnstars doing the damage under the bridge. Hit the pine yesterday morning and quickly landed a couple of nice bream around the 30cm mark on 3 inch powerbaits. (smelt) Caught plenty more undersize bream and flatties on softies and jiggin the prawn and finished the session with a nice little cod on the bream stick which smashed a storm twitchn nipper. Apart from a few light showers the weather was good .Cheers.

Good report mate and don't those storm nippers look the go? Yet to try 'em but I got 4 packets in a bargain bin for 10 bucks and they are the nearest looking thing to a yabbie that I've seen to date. You've wet my appetite to give 'em priority next time I'm out.

You're best off using you're own jig head on em if you're fishing deep though kev. They come rigged very light. I think you can buy them unrigged but I haven't seen them for a while. They went out of fashion bloody quick but they're one of the best "small flathead" catchers I've come across.

What did your mate do with the stone fish???

I think I would let it go but then i think of my kids, and others then worry that they may stand on it if I release it.

Seen a guy cleaning his fish at the ramp at teh marina up there one day, and he had a stonefish....told he he "killed that bugger".....as i as tieing the baot up he walked over and chucked the fish guts/heads into the water next to the ramp...including the dead stonefish......i dont know if a dead one can hurt you , but i went down and picked it up and cucked it right out in the deeper water..hate to think of someone comming and getting out of thier boat and stepping on it.

Yeah let them go mate. It's amazing how many of them are in that area. A couple of my mates have also caught them around bribie, mostly around weed and rocky areas. I wouldn't walk over weed beds. We've also got them in cast nets chasing prawns along with bullrouts, happy moments and leatherjackets. Not sure how poisonous a dead one would be but I wouldnt take the risk
