    great arvo bite

had a call from pete indy to go fishing
he wanted to check my sounder out
so we went for a quick run.about 2hrs later
we arrived at spot x about 4pm and fish were on sounder everywhere
1st drop in were both got a pearlie then a few more then odd snapper
so we decided to throw out anchor, from then we had a hot session.
just on dark got a huge bite then a sail leaped out of the water and the fight was on,by the time i got him the sail in it was stuffed and would not survive,as for me i was as bad as the fish i need a pick me up as i was in a full sweat for 15mins at leastback at ramp by midnight

ps pete will put up pics when he wakes up

Was it a commercial trip by the looks of the esky shot it was, from my understanding you cannot take any billfish on a commercial boat while fishing commercially, i guess you had some more crew hidden from the camera that makes that a legal catch recreationally.Thats what you should say anyway,
but i don't see any rec numbers on the boat must be behind the sail.

    Re: great arvo bite

As a commercial fisher in QLD it is illeagal to keep billfish of any type unless you are commonwealth licenced as a longliner. Also the BAC for BOTH Skipper and crew is 0.0 unless they are in port or safe mooring.

    Great catch guys.

They caught a sail that died, isnt it better to bring it in and use it rather than dump it.Who says they are going to sell it?

The black cans must have been for medicinal purposes just in case of an injury and line burn.

may well be poor form on my part and for that I appogise but I enjoy reading reports for what they are and get sick of some members putting negitive comments on what is otherwise a good report just because it isnt the same ideals as there own.

    Good haul there boys.

It's not all that uncommon to get a Sail down deep, in fact more common that what you'd realise.

I've eaten Marlin & Broadbill before, but never a Sailfish. I wonder if the Sail tastes similar to the other two?

If you eat it Pete, can you let us know? Of course I'm presuming that you have eaten Marlin before?

    Cheers, Jeff.

Nice catch lads. Now for the details, what area, how deep, current and bait????

unfortunately, i can see this one getting past a few pages.

    Damo
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. But ,flogging him into submission will result in him taking up crabbing.... and once he gets a taste of that sh*t, well, he may never return again.

    Re: great arvo bite

Didn't mean anything by my remarks other than to get a response as i know you can't take billfish for trade or commerce unless they are Broadbill or Striped marlin and to do so you must have a long line licence as they are governed by the Commonwealth fishery, just not sure weather you can still have them in your bag for eating purposes while on a commercial trip like you can with quota species if you don't have a quota. I don't like waste either but i've been in the same predicament with billfish while on a commercial trip many times and let them go because of fear of repercussions from fisheries just curious thats all.

Blaze no envy caught a few sails myself this season as for no idea i'd say probably more than you as it seems as for congrats on the catch, sure good catch but i'm sure it's not by his standards anyway, as for some mothers do have them i won't go there your appology will cover that as for my ideals don't bother me either way , i kill fish for a living just like pete does

    Cheers samson.
