Been caught out a few times like that.......one day went over to the wreaks and up came 25-30 knt change...w sw...was a fun trip back to the creek..
Tough day out this morning. Plan was to head out to Mud and St Helena to try a couple of new marks I found last time. Checked the current forcast on the BOM at 4am to find the wind had dropped to 11kn. Great should drop back a bit more by the time I get out there. At the ramp about a quarter to 5 to find it blowing a gale and some light rain (yes rain ). A quick call to the misses to wake her up and check the BOM forcast revealed 16 - 20kn. Dam %#$&* . Not happy but if in doubt don't go out. Turned and headed for home to catch an hour or two more sleep.
Decided to change the plans so dropped off the placcie gear and threw in the cast nets. Headed to Nudgee Beach and off out to the Shorncliffe jetty. Found a few schools of prawns and had some fun as it was still a bit sloppy. Felt like at times I was riding a surfboard. Not east to throw the cast net in such conditions. Managed about 4kg of medium sized banannas. Not many large ones about only got a small bowl of big ones. One in particular was a horse just over 20cm long. Ended up keeping the medium sized ones for fish food for my jack. Threw a few live ones in his tank when I got home. Hammered them in quick time with four or five stuffed in his mouth at once, what a guts!
Also tried in Nudgee Creek to try and find some better quality but didn't find any. If you're planning on heading out for a few I wouldn't bother unless you're after some bait. Plenty there just a bit small. I was a couple of hundred metres from the jetty. Just have a look where the cormorants are they'll put you on the money. Also caught 4 large stingrays in the cast net which were promply released.
A bit of a bugger with the wind getting up but if your flexible you can usually find something fishy to do.
Also got some stickers from Ausfish, some of the fish logo and also to name my boat "One Day". Stickers are great quality and quite easy to apply. Looks great, if you see me out on the water say g'day. All the best for the weekend if you're heading out.
