New Fisho
G'day boys, I am a new resident down at Birkdale and I have a new Stacer which I have just christened on the water and been out a few times from Wello but no fish. Would anyone like to share a secret or two with an enthusiastic fisho who would love to bag a few good sized snapper or squire around that area or anywhere else down that way. I have GPS and am not asking for national secrets just a few hints that will satisify the frustrations.
cheers and thanks...Bloefish

Re: New Fisho
You are not the only one that doesn't catch fish so don't be too worried.
Are you using bait or plastics?
The first key to everything is time and patience the fish are there you just have to chase them. Anywhere from ormiston to green island you will catch snapper so spend sometime searching the ledge which is about 4m - 5m range.
Best of luck
It's all part of the fishing experience

Bloefish,
Get up real early and be on your spot just before the sun comes up. Like Tinn said try to find some good reefy drop offs that are likely to hold some bait. If you come across some bait schools in such an area it shouldn't take long. I like to spend half a trip fishing and half just having a poke around to find new spots. You'll find plenty of fishy water around the Eastern side of most of the Bay islands. If you're heading to Wello go out past the leads and turn right or left immediately. You'll find a good drop off but does get fished fairly heavily now. There are some other lads on this site that fish that area more than myself. They may put you on a specific spot. That should hopefully get you started.
