    Braid and Gelspun line????

What or isthere any difference between braid line and gelspun line?. Is gelspun as strong as braid, do you get those bloody annoying knotts in gelspun like you do in braid when you casting. I have no idea and was wondering if anyone can help me. Only asking as im having trouble with my braid knotting up when i cast. I have the line on tight, no loose sections of line on the spoll, getting very annoying with this happening, could it be i use my rod for sps and small slugs and poppers,is there a problem there anywhere?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, might save me some money along the line.
    cheers

    Re: Braid and Gelspun line????

hey mate I tried fireline for a while which is gelspun and had no problems at all with knots when casting but after using it for a few weeks I found that it had faded alot and had almost no knot strength, i then swapped back to normal braid and had a few air knots, my problem was that i overfilled my spool, I've since lost a bit of line and no longer have as much of a problem. Some of the softer more supple braids are also more prone to airknots so it may be the brand of braid you are using

I found that I got alot of air nots when fishing light lures and soft plastics on normal braid. Once I used fireline I found that the amount of knots and tangles I got was greatly reduced and the knots I did get could be untangled easily. I now use fireline crystal on my light spinning outfits and im very happy with it.

I have just switched to the light crystal stuff and pleased that I tie straight to the terminal tackle. Seems to give fine knot strength and the gel stiffness aids in casting air knot free. I am wondering about effectiveness of a 2-3lb mono for general bream/beach whiting bait plastic fishing. Probably test it alongside the fireline as would be more cost effective and possibly equally successful.
