Should off got a auto Bingleboy...

To date my STX auto diesel has been the best car I have owned... It's not the most powerful, but it is so comfy and easy to drive..It's Very quiet, rides like a car and pulls my 6m fibreglass boat down the HWY at 110 easerly. Goes great on the 4x4 tracks and on the sand....

Only 1 complaint,,,,, Deisel is so bloody exspensive now...

I'm now going through the process of deciding on a manual or an auto for a new D40 diesel The manual sounds like a real pig from take-off I have a 2005 D22 Diesel and don't have any issue letting out the clutch without any accelerator when taking off at a crawl through Gateway traffic in the afternoons.

Just wondering if anyone here has the 4.0ltr petrol model and has any dramas with the manual box. Toying with the idea of getting the petrol model with a few extra KWs under the bonnet

Don't buy the petrol unless you own an oil refinery. I have heard some horror stories about economy including a horse float towed 195 on a full tank from Sarina to Bowen in central QLD. Ouch.

Don't like auto thanks. I prefer the grunt of the manual in beach conditions and there's the point of back up if there's a problems with the brakes. Had an auto a few years ago and much prefer the manual. My manual STR was a great car and didn't have any problems. Black Rat summed it up - "It's a pig from take off "and you can't crawl in second gear without it snuffing. Otherwise Jabba I agree with everything you said about the car. It's a great car except for this problem where they really got it wrong.

Yeah I didn't like Manuals either, and it is the first auto car in 12 years.... Had a coulpe off 4x4's Seirra and Hilux, both manuals, and apon buying the D40 I tossed a coin and ended up with the auto....
I'm more then glad I got the auto as it is great off road, sand or rutted and gutted hills... Quiet a few 4x4 nuts were quiet suprised to see the D40 do some off the climbs easier then there modded Cruisers and Patrols. Clearance is a problem tho..

Yes , I think there is a fair amount of ignorance when it comes to modern autos. They tend to deliver similar economy to their manual counterparts thanks to modern electronics and more ratios.

I went to nissan today armed with what I found in these forums and I find out tomorrow if they will replace the clutch, flywheel and pressure plate. While I was in there I was talking to a guy who owns an auto st-x. He loves it.

I have the auto stx. I was a manual man, but I am getting lazy as I get older. All I can say now is that the auto shits over the manual. About the only place it lacks is on real steep downhills, but it has to be pretty steep. Chuck it in low 4 and the lowest gear and your are pretty much right.

Mine is less than 12 months old and is already dented and scratched! IT has been used and abused. BEst car I have ever used on the beach.

Snatch, the drive train on mine has been fine, its just little annoying things like a persistent bonnet squeek and rear suspension squeeks. All are sorted now after i kicked up a stink at the last service.

Yeah, I will persist with nissan if they replace the clutch and told them that today. Definitely go the auto next time.

I took a mazda bt50 for a test drive a month or so back and very nearly signed up. The main cruncher was a lack of rear space. The navara swallos three adaults in the rear and the seat folding is a major plus.

I was impressed with the motor in the mazda I must say. But dollar for dollar the navara is excellent value. Infact when weighed against the highlux I wonder how toyota can be so rude to charge what they do. $5.000 more for an inferior car.

I just hope after 15 months of trying to get nissan to the table, that they do the right thing tomorrow. Otherwise it's bye-bye.

Andy, I don't suppose you could find out where exactly the squeak in the bonnet was? I had mine remedied but it came back after a month or so. It is bloody annoying.

Mine was in the bonnet latch. It has not come back as yet fingers crossed. IF you are driving along slowly and its squeeking, crack the bonnet open and it will stop.

I caught up with one of my sub-contractors on site today. He owns a Diesel STX manual and confirmed they needs a few revs when taking off.

He also owns a Pathfinder Auto Deisel and loves the Auto on that.

His only complaint was the price of Diesel at the moment !

    Navara Fixed!
After 11 months Nissan finally came to the party and fixed my the clutch problems on my STX that were causing it to snuff. They put in a new slave cylinder and it has made all the difference. It now drives as good if not better than the STR I previously owned. I am very happy with it now, it's the car I should have had 11 months ago. There's no roll back on hills, no sign of suffing out. Cannot believe the difference!
