    Long mono topshot?

Does anyone use really long Mono leaders over a braid backing? Where I fish has shallow reefs(3-10m) and I prefer to use plain ol mono for this type of fishing. But on occasion I get blasted by a huge pelagic that screams off hundreds of meters of line.

I was thinking of whacking on say 30-40m of mono instead of the usual 2-3m length. many people do this?

This way I can fish with all mono for the bottom dwellers, yet when a 20kg GT/mackerel hops on I have 500m+ of braid to stand a chance.where if i used just mono I'd only get half as much line on

Whack out another rod with a floater on it that can handle the pelagics. I like the feel of braid for the type of fishing I do on the shallow reefs

    Re: Long mono topshot?

My problem is as its shallow reef I have often hooked massive pelagics whilst bottom bashing and had to bust off as they would have spooled me.

I might give my idea a go next trip and see if it works
