    anchor winch's

    G'day all,

Thought i'd give my "Little Nest of Vipers" a birthday present of an anchor winch. How could she complain when she gets an expensive gift that will stop the back aches. Any way just hoping that a few lucky people that already have one might be able to shed some light on the good ,the bad and was it worth it stories. Any help with brands, pitfalls ,mounting setups ,costs, retrieve speeds, freefall capabillities and user friendly ability would be a great start.

    happy fishing

    Size of boat?

I have the South Pacific 710F model - it is still advertised for up to 21 foot boats, but I notice on the SP website its up to 20 foot. I have it on a heavy Vagabond and it works great. The power is quite amazing from the worm drive. I had it apart to have a stickbeak and it all brass and solid. I had a brush that wasnt always touching - bit sticky in the slide. I used some sandpaper to shave it and then greased the drive and inoxxed the slide and bushes and put back together and it doesnt miss a beat. Takes 12 mil rope and 6mil chain and handles both. I reckon for the price nothing comes close.

    Cheers

Dead set...there is nothing better than being at the throttle and wheel and being able to drop anchor automatically whilst holding station....and its pretty bloody good when winching up 80 feet of rope too! I would have it on just about any size boat now!

Haven't you guys heard of anka yanka and all the other derivatives of this system? Costs about $50 for the float and shark clip. I have a cuddy so I keep my anchor in the back of my boat (it's attached to the nose of course) so dropping and retrieving is a snap. One less motorised thing to go wrong.
