    Re: Deckies wanted

Depends on the boat and miles travelled i guess. From bribie to tempest and back is about a 130km round trip (without diversions). say 160km with a bit of looking around. Allow for $40-50 for bait, $15 or so for ice.

    lets pretend the donk is a carbie 2 str and gets 1km/litre, that's 160L at 1.25 = $200 + $60 for bait and ice = $260 all up. divide between 3 guys gives and i get $86 a man.

Depending on the motor'd fuel consumption and bait used, he's not far off.
Deep sea fishing is not a cheap sport, period.

    Damo
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. But ,flogging him into submission will result in him taking up crabbing.... and once he gets a taste of that sh*t, well, he may never return again.

Up here it would cost double that to go out on a charter boat for a day at the reef.
As damo said its not a cheap sport, but if several blokes share the costs at least its affordable.
The skipper still gets the short end of the stick as he still incurs the fixed costs of owning the boat, which I dont even want to think about.

The boat is a yatla odessa 21ft, with a 150 yamaha. Ample room for three and a good size esky to bring home the fish. Usually bottom bounce.

    G'day

They're a great performing outside boat. I believe $80 is very reasonable.

If I didn't have a full week i'd be considering it.

    Re: Deckies wanted

My point wasn't the cost of $80 fishing. I'd pay 10x that for a good day on the water.

Obviously I misunderstood the original post. I thought the skipper wanted 2 deckhands for the day to work for him, do the usual deckie things and bait hooks, get drinks, clean the deck etc . Not go out for a days fishing themselves

    now you got the idea.
deckie is a loose term on here...better than saying "fishing companion"
$80 bucks is cheep for a days fishing.
