Ive been told that to store your unused pillies if their not in too far gone condition you pack them in rock salt and leave em in the fridge?
Can anyone elaborate on this method or provide a similar alternative?
Cheers wow

I prefer to use old pillies as burly, but there is a method of salting down pillies. Do a search on here and it explains it a bit better.

I used to use a coarse rock salt for my leftover pillies back in the days when I was a bait fisho. It used to work a treat. The pillies firmed right up and still caught fish next time out. Placcies work better for me these days however.

Go the pillies...lol
Salt and freeze them

I gave up on the old pillies, always seemed to come off the hook to easy...but if salting makes em tougher..i might give them another go
salting them works a treat , i just use an old icecream container, layer of salt-layer of pillies-layer of salt-layer of pillies, they toughen up and smell, well that depends on how long they were unfrozen.

salt them down and put in fridge for a day or so before freezing them. Pool salt works as well and is cheaper.
ps: if I have pipis left over I open them up and do the same only I don't freeze them. misus hates having them in the fridge but they don't smell and I reckon they work better too

when im over moreton island i salt my pilly's and they last me 10 days without going in the freezer. and stay on the gangs better.
My Dad used to lightly dust them with alum (from chemist) and then liberally apply sugar. He would then store them in a tray under the bed in the sleep-out.... I swear......... the alum and sugar actually cures the pilly and the skin becomes quite tough yet still flexible for the hook, sticks to the hook and stays together, bit sticky though. No fishy smell emitted until you actually push the hooks through. He used to cure his bait prawns like this as well. He reckoned his catch rate didn't drop in fact he reckoned for night fishing it actually improved. Clever man my Dad, miss the old bugger hey.............................Luv ya Dad.
