Minimum Power for 630F?

Anybody like to comment on what they think the minimum power would be for a Signature 630F? I know the hull is rated to a maximum of 225hp.

One boat has a 130hp Honda and the other has a 150hp Optimax.

Any comments on either?

I am worried that the 130hp Honda may be underpowered but the 150 Opti is $4k more expensive.

Thoughts?

I would have thought that 150 would be a minimum... especially with a few people on board and fishing offshore.

The 130 Honda is a good motor, but it is lower in horsepower and I think carries extra weight.

Yes that 150hp minimum is the bit that worries me. I really think the 130hp Honda is going to be underpowered.

Bargain them down on the fact that it is underpowered, or try and buy the boat without the motor, then repower with a 175 / 200

Hopes this helps, Mind you he has put the best of everything on it.

G'day R_C I have a 1850l signature that is 6.3 long and have just repowered with a 135 opti with a 19in pitch vengance s/s prop. It has heaps of power. I fish out offshore in SE QLD and mainly out of the south passage bar. The old donk I just replaced was a 135 carbed merc that was on since 1995 and it also did the job noworries. I suppose the 130 honda would do the job seeing where you live (no bars) but hole shot would be better with the merc opti. Smart craft gauges are real smik also. Hop[e this helps Roy.

You could always try telling them you want the 150 and the price of the 130 or the deals off!!!!! you never know it may work has done before

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have to do some research on repowering costs now just to make sure we know what we could potentially be getting into.

One train of thought is to baragin the price down to allow for repowering, but to then use the rig with the 130 Honda for a while to see if it does really need repowering. If it does we will have already factored that into the price and if it doesn't we are ahead.

Any tips on the best repower for sesnsible money?

Any idea what the Honda 130 would be worth as a trade-in?

We are trying to keep costs down in a sensible range, so thus wouldn't think jumping to the 225 or 200 size engines would be the way to go. Thoughts?

Would be cheaper to buy the 150 opti version than to take Honda and then repower. That model Honda is heavy, so go the opti, fuel should be the same. I would think Honda could be dearer, but with dealers you never know. Put the 150/175 Yammie in your puzzle and then of course Merc have Opti and Verado. Cheers Pete.

Thanks for the feedback. Still trying to decide what to do, but I am frustrated in how hard it is to get prices on anything in the marine industry!

Why such the big secrecy around how much engines and boats cost new?

I need various prices on different sizes and brands of engines, but have to call multiple different dealers just to get the data.

Very frustrating.
