    Live Bait Illegal in NT???

Was having a beer this arvo with a Mate after work and was told that in the NT live baiting for fish is illegal. Now I could not comprehend this one bit. ive fished extensively in saltwater in NSW and QLD and i know there are rules on what you can use as live bait etc. ie 15cm or less for poddy mullet. But to be told that I cant use a live bait period to fish seems seriously off key to me.

Can anyone tell me if this is true or not.

is it possible some river systems are banned for live bait?

Also in the same discussion I was told by another colleague that there is something going through parliment to stop live baiting on the grounds of animal cruelty.

Before replying please be advised that this is not an attempt to stir up a hornets nest and I cant see anyone being pushed far enough to pass a bill that endorses the haulting of live baiting on the REDICULOUS grounds of animal cruelty but i'm hoping theres some far more enlightened persons than myself to clear this up for me.

    Cheers Chris
