Thread: For Ethanol Lovers

    Re: For Ethanol Lovers

Chimo you could try 1L of the cheapest TCW3 in every tank to help with lubricity, sometimes it is just easier to let the goverment screw you over, and deal with it when the damage is done, but never forget they did this without regard and in arrogance, work the view toward evening the score little by little over time

    Re: For Ethanol Lovers

    Hi FNQ C

Would you need to add 1lt?

That would be a 1% ratio (in a 95lt tank) and surely would make smoke would it not?

I do add air-cool ie lawnmower two stroke oil to compensate for the lack of lead in ULP to my '73 Celica 1600cc but only at 50cc / 50lt and get no more smoke than one does from valve stem seals on initial start-up.

Interesting if as you say two stroke oil ; TCW3 or air cool mower stuff ? is also the go for diesel with older injector pumps,

I am keen to fine tune the rate and also hear comments re air cool vs TCW3 please.

    Ta

    Cheers
    Chimo

PS How do you suggest one evens the score?
    What could go wrong.......................

    Re: For Ethanol Lovers

Hi Chimo, think you would be right 1L may be overkill (think when I worked it out to near 400ml per 100L was what I got as best case economy/benifit forget now exactly), the pump manufacturers want X amount of lubrication as minimum, our diesel standards do not meet it (thanks goverment), maufacturers are not unahappy as the standard is enough becuase they have no interest in life of design simply life till end of warrenty and a bit for good measure, then the spare parts get sold.

The tcw3 is ok as pump lubrication but normal air cooled 2 stroke is a far better lubricant than the dumbed down TCW3 spec and in every area.

The temperatures inside a diesel engine are massive in combustion compared to petrol engines so any oil will reach flashpoint and go out the exhaust, low ash or no ash is best, but any oil will lubricate the pump better than what exists ATM.

To offset the 1L/100L cost of oil per tank you can run 10-15% ULP petrol (to a absolute max 30%) keeps everything clean and get great economy/power as a result.
Been doing it for 6 months so far, they push I push back, I save all my old oils now refilter them basicly then they go in the tank- it's all just energy to the diesel.

    Re: For Ethanol Lovers

O'yeah and the Gov and petrol company's would love to force us to run ethanol in our diesels, the only thing holding them back is the industrial industry's reliance on diesel, as soon as they work out how to partition the little fella from the big fella's with 2 grades of diesel + the punitive regulation to back it up via 2 colours of diesel etc they will screw us good and proper there also.

    lt gets on my goat!!

    cheers fnq
