I have posted this here as I think that it may interest many of you out there. Might be a good chance to get away for the weekend, catch a few fish and possibly win some great prizes. Sorry if i have posted it in the wrong spot.

Goondiwindi Carp Cull

Want to win fantastic prizes, catch hard fighting fish and help the environment at the same time? Then enter the Goondiwindi Carp Cull.

The 'Cull' is scheduled to be held on the 19th and 20th of may, and event organisers are expecting up to 500 anglers. With cash and prizes to the value of over $11,500 up for grabs, competition is expected to be fierce.

This fun filled event will be based at Goondiwindi on the beautiful McIntyre River and help rid our waterways of these environmental pests. This competition is proudly brought to you by the Queensland Murray Darling Committee, Goondiwindi District Promotions with the help of the Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre.

Not only will the event help rid local waterways of carp, but it will also assist fisheries researchers investigate what impact these comps have on carp populations. Fisheries scientists (from DPI&F) will monitor carp populations before and after the competition to estimate its impact on local carp populations. Waterways used by anglers in the competition and unfished waterways will both be studied to allow for short-term environmental impacts.

A number of carp have also been tagged in the competition area to help provide more accurate population estimates. Anglers in the comp who catch one of these tagged carp will go into a special prize draw to win some fantastic cash prizes ($500, $300, $200).
