I have just gone from a merc 2st to a johno 4 115. I've only done 18hrs on it but so far I'm very happy with it. The merc had for 3 years with only minor problems

i used to have a mariner 25hp about 12 years ago which was a yammie but now might be a tohatsu i think they just rebadge all of them just for the loyalty to brand factor mate

    G'day

Bluefin, brunswick corp. do this with their merc/mariner brands ecause in certain parts of the world, each brand has a better market share. Much easier to tool up and produce one engine and whack a different cowel on when needed.

Same a the small HP japanese mercs are tohatsu and a fair few of the 4 banger mercs are yamaha.

from what i was lead to believe when i was tossing up between a mec & a Tohatsu is that some of the mercs are made by tohatsu, but, they are made to the merc specs with regard to metals etc used to keep their warranties..
