    Re: Lake Macquarie

g'day merc, the lake is a vast playground to say the least, you could spend years exploring its nooks and crannies, but one spot which is popular ( and crowded on w/ends ) is the area known as the drop over or drop off. Its at the northern end of the channel, where it suddenly drops into deeper water around 9 or 10 metres.
I rarely fish in the lake much myself, usually launch the boat there but head straight outside.
I am assuming you have a boat from your avatar.
You can speak to the guys at fishermans warehouse on the highway at belmont, they are always willing to give advice. Very busy shop, but its unique as its a traditional style tackle shop run by guys who live and breath fishing.
There are several artificial reefs in the lake as well, again the guys can fill you in.

    Re: Lake Macquarie

Hi Punta, think I would like some better spots than I got for the lake.

Only things I have caught there were Bream, 2 snapper, 1 Cobia, and a bloody Longtom.

Feel free to post them if you like.

    Re: Lake Macquarie

Mate i lived around lake mac all my life till moving up here to redland bay in january. Try out around pulbah islands NE side there is a large hole there about 12-13m (deepest part of the lake) or salts bay near the channel is good for bream and flathead or you can go off green point where there is a pipe which runs across the lake (easy to spot with a decent sounder)or you could try and find the elusive belmont barge(dont trust the GPS books )There are many options which only come with time as I'm sure is the case at moreton bay because I've been here since January and have not caught an edible f#@%$ng fish. seriously need to break the drought worse than BCC.

    Re: Lake Macquarie

    G'day Peter,
I liVe at Warners Bay and fish the lake regularly. Difference is we fish night time and have the lake almost to ourselves as there are too many out during the day. The worst we have done is 12 bream for a few hours fishing (2 in the boat) so there are fish there to be had. There are literally thousands of spots to fish as the lake has a shoreline about 160km plus the islands. If you come into Fishermans Warehouse (804 Pacific Hwy, Marks Point) as has been suggested we will gladly put you in the right direction to catch fish, whether you fish during the day or night .
    Cheers Jan.
