Re: hot problem no 1
hey dignity.
i would try taking the guts out of the thermos and just put the restricter back in. if u have hit and sandbanks or run ya motor out of the water or muffs dont fit properly then that will also demage the empeller but id do some work to the themos first just cut all the centre out of them and u should be left with like a brass thing with an oring on it.
good luck.

Dignity......
Your thermostats were well designed by the factories engineers and those same thermostats have provided years and years of service in hundreds of thousands of enignes so they cannot be wrong (unless faulty).
Your engine is not so unique that it requires you to start cutting bits out of thermostats in order to get it right (sorry ryank).
Too often people take a strange approach to rectifying a problem which typically means its been misdiagnosed or they haven't grasped the real problem and have found a bandaid solution that works in the short term, but they haven't actually SOLVED the problem.
EVERY outboard problem has an answer. Its simply a matter of working through things logically until you have the difinitive answer. No magical stuff, just facts.
Do not cut the guts from your thermostats. Its in the same league as guys who fit electric fuel pumps to their older outboards coz they think they arent getting enough fuel........
Oh dear, so misguided.....
