Thread: Polishing stainless steel

    Polishing stainless steel

I have stainless steel seat frames in my boat and the finish compared to the bow rails and targa frame does not seem the same quality as it leaves water mark stains.
What polish is best to use.
    Thanks
    Troy

Hve used Autosol, on the bow rail, seems Okay.

But if it's brushed type stainless, like the burley bucket, or prop, I have used Jiff, and a light scourer, Fantastic result scrub lightly in the same direction as the grain.

You need to get some triple-O grade steel wool. I use that with Autosol on my mags, used it on alloy bullbars, all the stainless on my boat. Its the easiest way. If its already shiny, and you just want to give it a bit more shine, steer clear of Autosol it is a strong polish. Go for somethin like a Mothers Alloy polish, or a California Custom one.

    Re: Polishing stainless steel

troy, if i was you i would stay clear of polishing stainless with steel wool it will leave small deposits of carbon in the grain of the stainless & will show rust marks once it has made contact with salt water , i would suggest if you want them to come up looking like brand new without to much effort take them to a stainless electropolisher there is a guy at brendale dave @ retaining clips australia he has a small tank he does all our stainless work that requires polishing & for some reason it helps prevent the water marks or tea staining.

    Way too much time ozbee.
Do it once a year when I take the prop off grease the shaft, and change the leg oil. It reminds me I did it, getting a bit forgetfull now days.

Try a bit of Brite Shine mate. It's non-abrasive and good for removing water stains. If the surface is dull, try one of the metal polishes, you'll have a shiny seat in no time.
