Fraser Island Novice
Hi All,
Am flying onto Fraser next week a some stage with a mate and have not fished there before. We will be landing at the strip at orchid beach and will fish an afternoon and next morning. As we will have no ground transport just wondering what options I have in close walking disance, ie southern headland?, or maybe just stick with the beach? Also does the shop there sell decent bait?
Cheers,
Urqie

Re: Fraser Island Novice
There is a petrol staion that sells bait at Orchid Beach, however your best bet is to catch some worms from the beach or dig up some pipies.
You are guaranteed to catch some dart and more than likely whiting and flathead on the beach front.
You will also get bream off Waddy point rocks and if you fish the early morning you might be lucky to get some chopper tailor.
I haven't heard of any jew being caught yet but it might be worth having a go for them at night off the beach. Look for a good gutter and get into it.
Be sure to post your report if you get any fish as I will be heading up there for the fishing comp in a couple of weeks and any reports are good reports.
Good luck.

If you are flying in (which it sounds like) see if you can get the pilot to fly up the beach, and get a couple of photos of the gutters north of Waddy Point. That'll be the closest rock to where you are landing.
I'm sure the big boat boys would be keen to see how the gutter is forming up.
If you can, a polarising filter will help, but if not possible then shoot lots, pick the best & post here.
Thanks

Hi mate
There are good rock spots at Waddy, Middle Rock and Indian Head, the beach works well year round, there probably will be a few tailor coming up aswell. Trevally can also be caught off the rocks. Best baits are pillies, pippy and worm off the beach, plus squid and strip baits off the rocks.
