Is 7-10kg too heavy for SP snapper

Hi all - I have a Pfleuger Medalist, heavy action 7-10gks, 7 foot. I use it to throw slugs at Tuna etc. I am keen to get into SP fishing for snapper and others.

Shes a tight heavy action - carbon fibre- rod, and I guessed that snapper on soft plastics might like a fair bit for whip in the tail - any thoughts?

If thats no good I have the old Shimano Technium Snapper rod that I can use...

should be fine for the deepwater stuff. for the shallow inshore reefs you could come down a bit. I use a 2-4kg 7' strudwick in Moreton bay with either 4 or 8lb mainline. for outside what you have for tuna will probably be fine.

You may struggle casting the lighter jigs for shallow work. My usual starting point is 1/8 oz heads and go up or down from there

all received and much appreciated fellas....I have a berkley drop shot thats a whippy 6.5 footer but she is too light...I see a need for an in- between rod!!!

Sounds to heavy for bay snapper fishing to me, i like a rod with a softer tip, i mostly use a 2-4kg E.Grell rod with 6 pound fireline or if there are some brutes around i'll use my 4-6kg E.Grell with 10 pound fireline.

I just spoke to the reputable tackle shop where I bought the rod and reel. They could have sold me a mid size outfit for this work, because I expressed my doubts about it being too heavy. He reckons that it would be perfect for it..re reckons that you wont pull the lips out of a Mud snapper, and it would hold onto the heavest snapper or other reefy if things hot up (you can only hope). It occurs to me that you need some weight to get down depending on tide, so I might just be able to cast far enough...we will see
