hello, a mate was telling me about the great time he had fishing in the Maroochydore shipping channel but i can't seem to find it on a map or on google earth? HELP

as far as I know, there is no shipping channel. There is the maroochy river, but its hardly a channel

I am pretty sure there are shipping lanes offshore up that way i cannot confirm at the moment as my charts are on my boat but as soon as i get them i will send you a PM with the details

Pretty sure he would have ment murphy's reef off mooloolabah, as it's very near the area where the ships anchor up while awaiting a pilot and port space

He may be referring to the Caloundra Blinker area?

About 12 klms SSE from Pt Cartwright...that is the beginning of the shipping lanes/channel into Brisbane from the north.

Boats usually come in wide of the Maroochy Blinker at the Gneerings and as Ian said off Murphy's to come inside the Cal Blinker...can't remember the depths but there is a distinct drop off on the inside of the Cal Blinker and a rubbley bottom. Some good fish are taken just inside the blinker (10mts) before the sun gets too high.

Wouldn't be the first time a Container ship has put the wind up us when we were fishing there in a 4.5mt tinnie!
