prawns everywhere
In case you didn't know there are prawns in most of the creeks on the sunny coast at the moment. Try Coochin, Eudlo, Petrie or parts of the Maroochy. The prawns were so thick yesterday morning that the water literally boiled, I have never seen so many, not even up North - each throw of the net would yield around 30 or more eating size prawns and in an hour the esky was half full. Brought home just under 6 kilos in the end, way too much for us but our elderly neighbours on both sides got a good feed of sweet, delicious prawns last night.
If you get the chance get into them before they disappear.
Here's a pic of some of them in the sink

Re: prawns everywhere
hey mate
thats an awesome catch just a few questions as i ve just moved to the sunny coast and would love to get a feed of prawns. Can you use just your normal style cast net or will u need a specialised style also is it possible to get these prawns land based as i have no access to a boat and if so what sort of areas should i look at finding them e.g sandflats, deep holes weedbeds etc. Finally location i no (i m being hopeful hear) as i m new to the area if you wouldnt mind. Not looking for secret spots jus general locations so i can pick up a lil feed.
Thanx in advance Trent

G'day
Beautiful work there.... what size wer the biggest prawns? What kind of depth have you been finding them in and at what stage of tide?
Would be good to compare notes a bit further south

Re: prawns everywhere
In reply to breamboss - I used a normal 8ft mono cast net. I've sent you a PM with a location you could try - a mate of mine got over a kilo there and he was landbased. Of course they may have moved on by the time you get there.
In reply to Blackened most of the prawns were about 3 inches long (not huge but a reasonable eating size) with some occasional smaller ones which I kept for future bait. I got them on the run out tide and most were in 4 - 6 feet of water. Some were in deeper water but I found them harder to get as they would escape from under the net too easily.
