    Re: Bait for Goldens???

I have caught lots of Golden trevally on squid. Up north when things go quiet we often sit just outside a sandy bottomed creek mouth of an afternoon usually in no more than 1-2m of water and fish with the largest peice of squid you can fit on your hook. Leave the reel on freespool with the ratchet on and i find the goldens usually are timid when taking the bait. you get these small bites and let em take the bait for a 10m or so then Strike....shortly followed by an sever arm stretching We get the occasion stingray fishing this way, but I have picked up some huge Goldens fishing this way.

You can also somtimes see them feeding over yabby patches etc, You see these fish tails flicking in the air.

floating pillies, or some slow retrieved lures have done the trick for me over the year, although they are usually only a by-catch on the reefs.

squid and cut baits work well where im from, but by far smallish spinner lures are best i rekon. the 4kg one in my dp was caught on a 10g.
