Oooops, I broke my boat :(

Had a mixed day out on the water yesterday, firstly while trying to retrieve the anchor the bowsprit on my boat snapped - Ouch!

Secondly, while rebaiting a floating pilly rig I put my near new TLD25/15kg rod combo down, I heard a noise and looked around to see the butt dissapear over the side and the outfit heading down into the deep blue at a great rate of knots. Needless to say I swore loudly!
Then my 15 year old son snapped his 15kg rod about a foot from the tip trying to free a snag from the reef.

The fishing was slow, but typically when the weather is that good the fishing is not.
Have attached a few pics of the day along with a pic of the broken bowsprit.

Anyone have any ideas how to or who I should see to get the bowsprit repaired?

Yeah, it was one of those days - The coral trout we are having for dinner tonight cost me over $100 a kilo Atleast the weather was spot on, have fished the GBR 100's of times and the weather yesterday was up there with the best.

    Hi leezor, looks like fun.
Anyway get some long spade bits for your drill and start drilling the busted ply out.

Once you got a series of holes going up to the glass on both ends of the bow sprit. Get your jig saw out with a long blade on it and chop out the rest of the ply.

Once all the ply is scraped out chissel, and paper on a bit of wood to make it smooth.

Cut some replacement ply to fit in both ends of the sprit, so it buts up where the break is.

When your happy with the fit, get some pro bond, and squeeze it in every where so it spills out when both parts of the sprit are clamped together.

Wait till dry and then start on the glass work to make it pretty.

Might wan't to make it a tad stronger though, it looks a bit flimsy.

You might be able to get a replacement from the retailer/manufacturer.

IMO, replacement would be a better option than repair.

Worse case scenario is that you may have to get one custom made.

Unfortunately the broken part of the sprit fell into the drink so there goes that idea. I remember reading on here some time ago that Southern Star Boats are no longer operating so I doubt a replacement will be available.
Might have to go the custom option, any ideas on costs?

    G'day

Send a pm of to pete, Grand_Marlin.

He's your man for this kind of thing, he should be able to souece a replacement... if not, get in contact with a local boat builder.... they may have something suitable for you.

Mate I feel for you. I also have a TLD25 rig and I would spit bigtime if that rig went overboard or any rig for that matter. Hope your next trip out goes much better for you.

Yeah, it could of been a lot worse. Heres hoping I can get it repaired sooner rather than later. Then it's time to go shopping for a new bottom bashing rig. With my luck I will get it fixed and then we will have a month of 25-30knt winds

If life deals you lemons you make lemonade

Things could have been worse, sunk the boat, cooked the motor and the list goes on

Better luck next time, you may have trouble getting a deckie though
