Freezing crabs ??
Hi all
Going to visit the rels in a few weeks and while there are plenty of blue swimmers around I will freeze some down.
I was going to freeze them green and cook them when I get there. Chilli, boiled etc.
My thoughts were remove the shell and clean them then put them wrap them in cladwrap then put into freezer bags.
Any thoughts from people who have done it before?
Regards Wayne

I think you will be disappointed with the results of freezing unfortunately.

Hi Wayne...we used to often half cook(boil) ours then when you want to eat it just boil it for the other half....gets all the juices going through again...I must admit now that i would rather give my crabs/crays away then freeze them...they never seem as nice once frozen....Cheers Mick

Re: Freezing crabs ??
Have to agree - they just don't come back with much flavour after freezing. The freezing process breaks all the cells allowing all the water and the flavours to drain away when they are thawed, leaving the meat rubbery and fairly tasteless. Frozen crab is better than no crab, but not by much
