    Wello/Tingalpa Ck Thursday

    Gidday everybody,

After a bit of a fishing drought, I headed out early this morning and launched the tinny at Wello Pt just after first light. I dropped the dillies out in front and headed back to the reef for a fishing session. To cut a longish story short, I ended uo with a just-legal bream (sent back to grow a bit more), four very undersized squire (but one put up a helluva fight, thought I was on to something good for a while) and a few things that swam me into the reef before I could control them.

The breeze started to pick up a bit, and decided to pull the plug - my tiny tinny is only a 12 footer, and a boat ramp with a serious chop on it was not part of the plan for the day. Picked up the dillies - five legal male sandies, two big ones among 'em. That made me feel a bit better.

Back at the ramp, I decided to head for Tingalpa Ck, which is always my plan B in case of the breeze being too strong. It was about 9:00 when I started throwing the cast net. Got a good sized banana prawn on the second cast.

I moved about a bit, getting the odd prawn or five, mainly small to medium sized. There were a few other folks chucking their nets, all were getting some. I kept it up till about noon, total bag about a kilo and a half. Hard work, but I sure need the practice - I am embarassed when people see me throw a tangled mess of net, and that happens about one cast in three.

Got home early afternoon and cooked the catch - seafood for dinner tonight. Putting the boat away, I managed to run over my toes with the jockey wheel - ouch. (Actually, I think I used some different words!) If I had done a better job, I would have torn the toe nail right off. As it was, I needed a quick trip to the doctor, a jab with painkiller and a slice with the scalpel before the job was finished. Not the best end to the day - but what the hell, it's still better than work.

By the way, the sandies fell for chicken wings as bait. I've used chook for muddies before, but this was my first time for sandies. Good bait, doesn't smell too bad, tough to get off the bait pin and CHEAP! I will keep that in mind.

    Good fishing,

    Mike
