    catch/keep ratio ????

    Hi,

I have been keeping a log of my fishing exploits over the past 6 months. My fishing spot has been documented as the same landbased spot everytime. I have been fishing 39 times and over that time I have caught 115 fish and have kept 41. That means that I have kept roughly 35% of what I have caught.

Am I going Krazi or does someone else also do this stuff????????????

    Just interested

Now that is keen...................i dont do that, i just go out, throw a line in and wait till soemthing bites the bait.

Not quite that nonchalant, but I certainly dont keep a log.

Think he is talking about the number of fish he has thrown back compared to caught.

Of those fish you have caught, are they all legal?

Crazy, maybe kingkev, but i would say more smart than anything! I would say (without doing the figures like you have) it would probably on average be one keeper to every 3 to 4 fish caught??

It would average out at about 1 for every 4 fish caught. All fish are legal and within size limits. Of the fish thrown back..............on one occassion it was a 74cm Barra, however, caught during the off season. Some of the fish in the "thrown Back" category include Toad fish, Catfish, Sea snakes and Knotty eels.

Prior to starting this FISH-File log I was getting into the Grunter during months prior to November when I actually started this thing. If last year is anything to go by...........I should improve that ratio after collecting Data for 1 year.

Sorry to hear that I am the only one Krazi about my fishing. Besides the fish caught and released, I log fishing times, tide times and High tide heights/depths as well as wind speed and direction. I am hoping that after a while I can better target my desired species and past results/history can come into play as well.

              Cheers

i didn't see anything about water temperature and barometric pressure.......i once read an article that stated a difference of 1 or 2 degrees meant the difference between catching tarpon or barra, so i added moon cycle as well to a journal i kept while fishing the boyne river 20 yrs ago. so far i can't remember ever catching both species at the same time..... but give us a line if anyone has.

Nope - not that anal about it all - but probably should be - I reckon you're on the right track to predicting what will be biting on what and when at your local spot.

                    Regarding:

I'm not a northern fisho - but one of the times I fished up at Rocky under the bridge I got tarpon, Barra and threadfin in the one session - at night on live prawns... dont know if that helps your theory or not!

                    Cheers,

                    Adam

                      gday fellas,
i know you's are talking about saltwater fishing but i keep a log off where i catch my barra at the local impoundments and how many and what size. it limits the small fish i catch and increases the big fish i catch

Goใ€€ใ€€lethals................you are as crazy as I am.

I am just hoping that after one year all this info can improve my fishing skills and put more fish on our plates.

As for water temp and barometric pressure................I might leave that to those crazier than me.

                          Happy fishing
