    wello...again!!

with a change of plans last night, i was able to take my g/friend for a fish today out in the bay. got on the water around 6.30 to what could best be decribed as a sheet of glass . threw some bait around but was very quiet for a while, just a couple of u/size squire. the deckie then pulled up what i had called for a bream, but on closer inspection it apeared to be missing half its head. it went 29cm but not being sure if it was some rare fish species, we threw it back, after we took the attatched pic.

at around 9.30 with the deckie overheating in the windless conditions, we took a cruise out to harry's for a look. no sooner had we got there, the bait fish were getting smashed, so with my limited knowlage on that style of fishing, i hooked up a 30g slug and started throwing at the boils. no luck but it great to mix it with the big fish for a while. actually had a few big mackeral swim right under the boat!!! headed back to wello at bout 11 and tried chasing what i believed to be tuna jumping out of the water chasing hardy's!! great sight, and only in about 2.5m of water.

we headed back to the ramp with nothing, so i sent tina up get some more bait for next week. no bait but ended up with a monster flatty in the cast net off the jetty!!!! very happy with that, after 6hours on the bay with no fish, to get that chasing bait was a bit of a suprise! Deckie of the year i reckon

u/water pic is 3.5m deep. very clear today out there.

    cheers

That sure is a nice flatty. The half headded fish is definitely a bream suffering a near death injury in the past. Something took a big chomp out of it and it healed over like that. Now he has survived being captured. One lucky fish indeed. I too am eating flatty for dinner. Scalem caught too many yesterday.

Sssshhhh. The plan was to bring some home for the family lunch, not that I caught "too many." It was always the intention. .... That was a close call, I would have had a few messages from some Flattie Huggers otherwise

Enjoy dinner tonight! You too high and dry, that's an awesome fish.

That has got to be the unluckiest flathead in the bay, poor bugger. Still a lovely fish though, bet it tasted just as good even though it hadn't been hooked.

I am heading to Wello this Wednesday for a placcie session from the flats so I hope his/her family are around still.
