The young fella had been bugging me to take him fishing - so packed up the boat - the intention was to burley up and use baits but I threw the placcie rods in... just in case.
Didnt hit the water till after 9pm, and tried to find Georges gutter in the dark without my GPS - couldnt find it - bugger!! so off to Wello - didnt get there till well after 10pm started burleying and out go the Mullay fillets along with a live mullet in the 6 inch range oh and throw out a placcie - just in case.
Within a couple of minutes the placcie rod goes off and a 38cm squire hits the boat - at this stage I thought it was going to be on - so I kept him live just in case I wanted to throw it back.... sit back and wait for the bait to go off.... nothing so out goes the placcie rod again 5 mins later and its bent over groaning and a squire - slightly bigger at 40cm hits the deck.
Finally some action on the bait - the rod with the double hooks pulls up a double header of twin baby squire all of 15cms long - back they go and rebait. The gang rig goes off and a small gold spot cod comes up and goes back in to grow another day - the double hook rig goes off and this time theres about 2 ft of slimy moray eel tangling itself up the line - wrapped up almost 3ft of line... as I'm wondering how to get it off the placcie rod goes off big time, yeh ok... it went zzzzzzzz (etc) anyway the pressure was so hard I couldnt get the rod out of the rod holder - finally get it out and the thing keeps going... and going and going... couldnt turn its head - finally after about 60 metres of line gone, it finds the reef and ping.... rubbed off... I get about two foot of raspy leader back - I think the good folk sleeping at wello point could hear the cursing!!!
A short while later and I can hear something chopping on the surface - so I cast the placcie towards where the noise was coming from - not knowing how far away it was... twitch twitch BANG on again this one gave me a short tussle and actually pulled some drag... resulting in a nice little squire around 50cm (probably 49.5cms) - but close enough.
After that it went quiet - tried drifting a bunch of different spots for nothing - the young fella didnt make it to see any of the action - he went to sleep before the first bait hit the water... now I'll have to do it all over again next week - Bugger!!
Oh the final score: Fantastic Plastic; 3 keepers - burley and bait; ZIP!!!
Sorry about the pic - its late (3am)
Cheers,
Adam
