Thread: Pike. Any good?

  1. #1

    Question Pike. Any good?

Caught a whole heap of pike the other day in the Susan river, Cant say iv ever caught them before. Got them on a Kakoda prawn SP. Fun fish to catch on light line. Got plenty of air action too. Just wondering what they are like to eat? Or are they more a bait fish? They were all around 35cm. Do they have a minimum size for keepers?

No size or bag limits but in the eating stakes, it's preferable to keep them as bait and convert them into something tastier and less bony.

Great for Live and Trolling baits.

They are probably not the same species of pike I've caught on the NSW south coast.

Eaten fresh & pan fried, they were on a par with the big blue nose whiting we were sometimes lucky to get.

Other than that, they make exceptionally good trolling baits, wish I had a dozen or so.

You could simply clean a pan sized one and cook it up, you might be pleasantly surprised.
