Hi All
my brother and i went for a trip to mud this morning to see if any tailor had arrived as yet but alas poor yorik there are still none there or very few we boated 2 nice grinners trolling pike and wasted a few baits decided to troll between the 2 run offs but another boat was anchored there and did have an ausfish sticker on it a white bermuda i think , trolled pasted them and gave a wave and got a wave back not sure who you are but hi then they pulled ancher and headed for st helena so we headed down a bit further and anchored up for the first of the run in and landed 2 sweetlip going 37 cm and a bream that was 27 cm fish went off the bite so started trolling again and picked up 4 nice bream on the troll going between 35-38 cm on pike the bream were just every where destroying a trolled baits so headed back to woody point to get more pike for the next trip go 45 inabout 40 min so went home as the breeze started to get up, all in all a good day on the water

pike are everywhere around woody point. not just off peir.. there is quiete a few ways to catch them. for me i either spin them up with soft plastics (be prepared to loose a few) or use a very small strip bait as a kind of lure, working it vertically usually around the pilons of the peir. personally i think the soft plastics work better but it can get a little bit expensive so dont use ur most expensive plastics. pike will nail ANYTHING!!!, so cheaper plastics are fine.
might i add that i have caught heaps of pike at scotts point rocks so theres another option for you.
hope that helps mate
robersl,
not a bad report at all. at least u got a feed and im sure the sweetlip will go down a treat!!!!

Re: Mud is keepers
thanks guys
hi silent i use red white and yellow wool tied , put the three colours together and tie knots about 1 cm apart pull tight cut off at the top of know then use a candle to burn the knot and make it hard put a size 8 long shank hook as in narrow hook hook through the knot easiest if you suck on the knot first and moisten it you flick it up and down besid the boat and pull the pike in quite a few pike at woody point a bit early there for some spots but there are some around the shields st reef and scotts point at the moment drift till you find them always in schools

Want An In-expensive Way To Get Pike, My Family Has Been Useing Wool For Years My Dad Used To Do It As A Kid, And I Grew Up Catching Them On It At Shorncliffe Pier. Get A Long Shank And Tie A Bit Of Wool Onto The The Bottom Of The Hook. Useing A Similar Set Up To Whitting Fishing Aswell I.e Sinker, Swivel, 30cm Trace And A Long Shank A Bit Bigger Than A Whiting Hook, Different Colours For Different Days Aswell. But Shh I Dont Want Everyone Taking All The Pike .i Have Seen Some Idiots With Over 300 At Shorncliffe, Dont Know Why Someone Would Want That Many Pike In One Sitting. You'll Leave Other Jetty Rats Jealous After They See You Pull In 30 Pike In No Time While They Have Been There For Hours Without A Bite, I Always Do. And As For Technique Just Jig It Up From The Bottom At About One Jig Up For Every 2 Secs.

Re: Mud is keepers
Hi Robersl - I was at Mud this morning also. Fished on the eastern side for a few hours for about 20 plus squire of which only 3 were legal. Lost a few to quite large sharks as well - saw one of the sharks have a slash at a squire just behind the boat as I brought it up. Confirmed what I'd though after a few fish suddenly got extra strong about half way in. Also boated a few grassies and a cod but released them all, even though the cod was just legal. Moved in close to the reef again and managed 5 keeper bream and about 15 big gar. Came home about 11.00, just before the wind got up.
