If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing rods.

I would highly recommend not going through the Caloundra bar if you have never crossed it before. Without someone experienced on board, I would suggest launching from Mooloolaba instead. It will only add an extra 10 minutes or so to your trip (at a guess) and you will be ALOT safer.

Go to mooloolabah!! The caloundra bar is very workable and it's position quite stable but a monday morning is'nt the time to work it out. There wont be enough traffic to observe and follow. Cal wide isn't all that much farther from mooloolabah of for that matter scarbrough when you consider what's at risk. Just my opinion.

Beg to differ, the man asked the question and got good advice ie. don't do it. He may otherwise have found someone on the forum who could show him the ropes. I'd hate to think that people felt that they couldn't ask questions for fear of offending the "eggsperts"

Then the man really needs to do a bit more homework and a bit more prep work and have some better knowledge of the local area, which is probably gained by visiting the area in quiter times, in daylight, sussing out things a bit better instead of asking advice on an early morning bar crossing they have absolutely no background on or knowledge about.

On the topic of the bar. I went out for a surf this arvo and it was as flat as pancake. Really depends on the conditions. Ive only ever done it in our cruiser and am more worried about the lack of water under than the other way.

That's just the problem with it , quite shallow. Very hard to see the sand banks with the rising sun in your eyes Doesn't take much of a wave to get yourself in trouble when your stuck sideways on a sand bank. Better to learn the safe route when you can see a few other boats going across. eg a saturday or sunday morning.

Kerry, Im only new to the site today and this is the second thread i've read where you have totally stirred things up unnessesarily. I'd like to ask other longtimers here IS this REGULAR for KERRY???? Now Russ is clearly inexperienced with the Caloundra Bar but asking a few questions from experienced guys from the area I would have thought does count for "homework" at getting a bit better knoweledge of the area. For god sake what more would you want from someone making his first bar crossing in a new area. We all know pleanty that would just go it with out asking a thing. Especially if Russ is an experienced boatie just looking for a heads up.

If 10 blokes from Caloundra replied : Oh that bar is sweet man just have a crack he probably would have gone off Caloundra. But he didnt because he DID some homework and asked around from blokes in the know.

Im asking seriously DO YOU INTENTIONALY WRITE COMMENTS TO PISS PEOPLE OFF OR DO YOU JUST HAVE THE SOCIAL SKILLS OF A SLEDGE HAMMER???????

For the record Russ the Mooloolaba bar is probably the best you'll find id go there everytime if i had the choice.

                      Cheers Chris

                        Re: URGENT caloundra bar conditions

Brumby, Lovey, I think we are all entitled to share our own opinions on this forum, whatever they may be, without coping abuse from others for doing so.
You will note Kerry has been a member for a long time, and made many contributions, for which he should be applauded for making the effort.
Whether others agree with his replies is strictly up to them.
This situation applies to whoever posts on whatever topic, we post without fear of having our replies rubbished.
My opinion, to attemt a potentially dangerous bar-crossing, and thus putting your own and others' lives on the line, without personal observation of the nature of the bar is tempting fate just a little too far, to put it mildly.
Bottom line, Russ decided to take the safer option.
                        Cheers.

Kerry makes a good point, not only with this topic but also others, some people just like to put there 2 bobs worth in weather they know what theyre talking about or not, maybe theyre just lonley, but in a topic such as this I say if you dont know then shut up.

Mate I think you've just committed the crime you're accusing us of. I think you'll find that kerry is big fat and ugly enough to fight his own battles anyway!

Ah looks like we're having a(nother) bit of a lost cause whinge session

Well Lovely80 there are times when things need a shaking, a real good shaking as quite frankly if the message gets across then so much the better and if it requires a sledge hammer then that's not a problem either.

I will say as I see fit and will certainly not be asking your permission first .

What you have done here is nothing more than gone right out of your way to drag up past events for absolutely no purpose other than to attempt a cheap shot.

Well buddy if I am all you have/want to comment about then don't waste your energy, use it constructively .... else where!

                              Regards, Kerry.
