    Gold Coast beach whiting

Easter weekend, Saturday afternoon saw a ripping SE.
Low tide; coming in 1 hour to dusk .
13ft light action rod, Alvey 600B, 4kg Platy pretest.

With the wind so strong decided to buy worms instead of trying to catch some in crazy conditions.

Arrived down the spit, ocean side (around Seaworld).
Rigged up very lightly with a #4 mustad long shank.

As soon as I hit the top of the dunes wind almost knocked me on my back.
Found a likely bank, forming in to a nice high tide gutter (for jewies soon enough).
Put half a worm out back, let the sweep work with the wind and take the bait North.
Picked up solid hits, simply lift the rod and let the light action soak up all the work.
Nice dart beachside, released to fight another day.
I was looking for the sweetest of sweet tasting . . . beach whiting .

Half hour with a few solid hits but no success and I was drenched.
Water was warm saving me from wind enduced hypothermia lol.
Ventured 20m north with the tide and sweep now really pulling across the bank I was standing on.
Found where the gutter was starting (2' drop).
Simply let the bait drop about 7' out front then roll with the sweep across and down in to the gutter.

    Finally found them whiting!
Last 30 mins of light (and bait) I kept 8 nice whiting for the BBQ.

Was so windy only saw 4 tourists the whole time I was there.

    BBQ'd hot and quick.
Put the marinade on the hot BBQ
    3tbsp garlic
    2 tbsp butter
    1 tbsp honey
    1 tsp soy
    Zest of 1 orange
    Fish skin side down.
Remove from BBQ when about 1 min from cooked.
Put in a bowl and let cooked fish relax, covered in the marinade.

Serve with jasmine rice and steamed greens.
    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-ind my garlic breath
