Derek -- Lewis and Clark Journals

Hello Derek (and anyone else who may be interested),

I remember a while back you asked me about a camp oven that commemorated Lewis and Clark's journey mapping America's west. I was just looking up said journey and found this site that lists their journal entries. It's a pretty interesting read. You may already know about it but I thought I'd pass it on in case you hadn't.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the story, Lewis and Clark were sent to head an expedition to explore the lands that were purchased by the US government from France in the "Louisiana Purchase." The area was vast, unknown and full of dangers. With the help of natives, they made it all the way to the west coast in what is now the state of Oregon. Sort of the "ultimate camping trip."

    Hope you find it intresting.

Thanks for the link EC. I actually ended up importing two Camp Chef camp Ovens from the states and they are both the Lewis and Clarke ones. I have the 5" and 14" models. Cost me a fortune in freight. Photo below.

For those interested this camp oven has a very interesting lid. Has three legs so you can sit it in the coals and it then makes a great frying pan. See second photo below.

They look good Derek. I love the idea of having the three legs on the lid too. That saves the space and weight that an extra frying pan would have taken. One long hike over rough terrain carrying a cumbersome pack will drive home the need for efficiency.

They would be great for a fishing/camping trip as well. You could make quite a nice shore lunch with that set.

    Very nice!
