I thought about burley but is it a responsible thing to do in canals where people swim/ski etc?.

Mate they're there anyway. Burleying just helps them with directions to where you are. (Chumming might be a bit different though - wouldn't recommend a whale carcass).

    cheers
i got him in the top end of the nerang river.
For burley I just use the no frills brand, cans of 'chunky pilchards' cat food (69c each) and any frozen fish gut and frames I have left over from previous catches. I just jam it in my DIY 90mm PVC pipe burley bomb and give it shake every so often, seems to work well.

I like the burley bomb idea, am I guessing right that it has a filter on it and a long rope to toss it out?, or do you just shake it around near the shoreline.

    Re: Bull Sharks?

no filter, pvc pipe is 400mm long with a cap glued on one end and the other end has a screw on cap for access, and a whole lot of 8mm holes drilled all through it inc both end caps, tied off to the back of the boat on 1m or so of rope and yeah a couple of shakes every so often releases some burley, cant see why you couldnt use it land based either, just have to be tied off so a crab doesnt walk off with it.
