    Ramp Rage

Id have to say i am a little ashamed of myself as i had a touch of the ramp rage on monday after turning back due to the bay conditions i headed to the Deep water Bend Ramp on the Pine for a quite day out to find the ramp blocked up by three boats with its occupants dicking around whilst the the pontoon on the end was left vacant after suggesting that they move down out of the way i got the response of they are only going to be a sec well needless to say ten mins later i was still waiting with the blood begining to boil the ball and chain calmed me down and we went on to have a great day ......... that was until we decide to retrieve the boat i dropped the deckie off to grab the car and get in line whilst i thought i would leave the ramp and pontoon clear for blokes launching. After sitting off for 1 1/2 hrs and watching countless people gin around and load boats on the ramp and parents chasing kids around the parking lot to get them in the boat i had had enough i was furious and beware anyone who got in my way, the first guy to get it was an idiot on a jetski who thought he would pull into the ramp whilst i was on approach to the trailer, after driving onto the trailer and preparing to pull out some *$@#wit decided to say something under his breath and that was it the words flowed thick and fast and believe me it wouldn't have taken much for it to have gone further.

Anyway long story short i turned into something i said i would never become.

    Re: Ramp Rage

we all have our moments. Nobody is perfect.

Regarding retrieving your boat, the idea is for your deckie (ball and chain) to get the car in the line of boats waiting to launch/retrieve at the ramp. There is usually only one line of cars and trailers, and when your car is next in line, get you boat back onto the trailer and then off to the rigging bay.

The line of cars and trailers is the only line I recognise at the ramp. People on the beach might be coming or going or just having a break before going back out.

    Hope that helps.

    Re: Ramp Rage

One reason why I refuse to launch the boat on public holidays....
Even Mr Magoo could quite easily turn into a monster at a ramp on a public holiday....
I would have gone OFF way before an hour and a 1/2 and driven over the ski.
    But I'm a cranky bugger

    Re: Ramp Rage

Sounds like a classic case as I highlighted a previous post called 'bootys five top ramp indescretions'

Just on that too, I was around the Jacobs Well ramp for most of the long weekend and I am not sure whether the Council have painted some extra parking bays in there but the area directly opposite the ramp used to be about 3 cars wide for people to safely drive away from the ramp. Now it looks almost to be a one way street there, which still did not stop peanuts parking there to tie down, strap down the inflatables, pull out the bungs, check the motor, buy an ice cream etc etc.... GET YOUR BOAT OUT AND THEN TAKE IT AS FAR AWAY AS PRACTICAL FROM THE RAMP TO DO ALL THAT. YOU MIGHT EVEN CONSIDER OTHER PEOPLE ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY PARK BACK IN A PARKING SPOT TO DO IT ALL!!!

    Russ.
I lost it and at Clontarf on Good Friday and had a verbal with a bloke who I thought was jumping the que.

Jeremy is right the order to use the ramp is the que of cars lined up with trailers to use it. Whether you are coming or going doesn't matter.
With the cooler months coming on ther will be less traffic so maybe less agro.
But if QLD's population keeps growing at 70K people each year who knows.

    Re: Ramp Rage

I feel for your Russ.Nothing I dispise more than inconsiderate people. But I learnt a few years back theres not a great deal you can about it.

Unfortunately alot of people just dont have common sense. When they do silly things like clog up boat ramps, tie down on the ramp, forget to prep the boat before they launch it etc. Most the time they have no idea its the wrong way to do things(some do and they are the true wankers in life)

I have long ago realised 90% of them are not doing it on purpose to annoy others.

Their brains aren't on the same wave length as ours/yours and more often than not they have no idea they are doing the wrong thing and annoying someone else. I try not to get mad at them as anger solves nothing.

But boy its hard not to somtimes i'll admit

When I go fishing with my brother at public ramps, after the boat is preped one of us goes down to the water and often helps other 2-3 boats in front coming in or going to speed things along. By doing this you can usually slip a polite word of boat ettiquete or two in with no one getting angry

    Re: Ramp Rage

DWB has always been a shocker. Far too narrow. The new ramp at Dohles Rocks looks great. Two lanes & a fair amount of parking. Only negative is recovery if the SE is blowing. No shelter at all.
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

    Re: Ramp Rage

I would suggest that alot of people are ignorant of ramp etiquite because they are not taught it.
When you do your exam for a boat licence there is nothing about how to use a ramp for the common good. Flex you are dead right, helping others speeds us up.
There are of course some who just don't care.
And while I'm on it why do people think that sand right next door to a ramp is a beach where you can park your boat (jetski) for hours. Launch and p$ss off!!!!

    Re: Ramp Rage

Absolutely SgBFish, I feel the same about dunderheads who think a ramp is a good place to set up shop to land base fish !! WTF is that ? your'e' fighting wind and current, trying to come in on a decent angle and there is some doodle fishnig from the bloody ramp !! go away you fools.

I think it makes a lot of sense for someone in the Govt. or fisheries to actually put pen to paper and put together some guidlines that as suggested above, are covered when people get their licences. You have to learn how to navigate, and how to operate the boat, so why not the fiiner details of launch and retrieve ?

Sounds like a plan.. who can we pressure on that one ?

    Re: Ramp Rage

Sanchez.... you could be onto something there. They have ust started to put up etiquette signs around known trouble spots in an attempt to ward off surf rage.

What about some good simple DO'S and DONT'S for people who are either a little less educated or a little more ignorant and arrogant than those on here.

    Re: Ramp Rage

This all just echoes what I see every day with regards to our kids. We have brought them up to be respectful of each other and other people as well. That's fine but they slip occasionally and the excuse is that they are amongst the minority in their circles because most of their friends are all ME ME ME people. It's a shame really, you see it all the time and now it's creeping into fishing circles...I guess it's not that we are getting bad it's just that the people getting into boating these days couldn't give a rats about anyone but themselves...sad really.

G'day, It started with Road Rage, moved on to Ramp Rage, but heres another one for you which happens a lot.
    Rock Rage.
Just for some of you rock fishermen out there.

    Re: Ramp Rage

Hmm, Rock rage could be tragic really, but back to the topic, how do we get Dept. of transport or the government to put something together on this ? certainly sounds to me that we have enough collective intellect on this site to put together a handy list, so if we could do it in a reasonable manner, perhaps we could convince transport to send it out with every boat rego renewal ?

EEK, forward thinking, I better go have a few beers

That is the way to go. However with the likes of Cabbage Tree Creek down at the Pin there is room in the rigging area for about 4-5 car/boats preparing to launch & room for people to line up to retrieve boats along side them.

It can become a sticky situation when you have a couple of boats ready to go and a couple ready to retrieve while waiting. I've found a quick "How ya going" or "Howd ya go" to a fellow fisherman can be an ice breaker and often leeds to a mutual agreement on who goes next

Rarley you'll get a look of WhoTFAYou that's when the fun starts
