    Innisfail to Gordonvale camping

    Hi guys,

My wife and I plus 2 young 'uns are planning a 2/3 day trip up the coast and I'm looking for suggestions for kid-friendly caravan parks/camp grounds. The aim is to have a full day at Sugarworld (Edmonton - Cairns) followed by some low stress camping somewhere south as we live in Townsville

Boating's out of the question with the winds still howling but we do have a canoe so access to some sweet water would be good (Russell Mulgrave??). Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Mozza

Mozza what is your defintion of "low stress camping"? Ammenities and all the gear? or nice and quiet everything you need is in the car when you pull up.

    fnq,

It would have been a campgound with at least a shower and a sh!thouse where a 5yo and a 9yo couple of over-active boys can stay out of trouble but we're always interested in non-managed camping areas.

It looks like the trip will have to wait for a longer break but still interested in the info thanks

Mozza that's good new's the weather is crap ATM and may continue, the area is pretty barron along that stretch, there is Flying fish point Cara park on the coast east of Innesfail, also 15 min south of Gordonvale is fisheries flat which has a cara park nearby on the highway the best spot I know of with a canoe is a state forrest camping site just behind the range inland of Deeral/Babinda, access from the highway is from Gordonvale (25 min, top canoe country) but not sure if it has reopened since larry forget it's name but it has truly beautyful water there (upland reaches of the Mulgrave river I think, so it flows but has some calm areas).

The only other place worthy of the canoe and camping and kids I can think of is lake tinaroo, somewhere like Kali campsite (toilets) which is not a popular ski spot so less chance of yahoos (take along some red claw traps).

The southern side of the highway into Cairns has one of the big 4 mobs with everything a family could want to do it easy and only a faily short drive to sugar world.

Pretty sure I got all the names right, if you want the name of the camping/canoe spot let me know and I will look it up.

    cheers fnq

Bramston Beach is a nice spot with a council camping grounds right on the beach front with stinger net there has toilets showers and playground. If you follow the beach front road north you come to a small national park with camping but no facilities, keep following track to turn around end and it's a short walk to a enclosed estaury. It's quite shallow and I've got some good flathead there .The south end of Bramston has a creek as well with a boat ramp.Hope that helps. That camping and canoeing spot FNQ is talking about is the Goldsborough national park I think.Hope that helps bye.

Yes MD Goldsborough is the one, thanks. Forgot all about Bramston looks like good camping in the council park never done it myself. Didn't know of the track north will check that out myself soon

Think there is camping to the west of Babinda at the Bolders, nice water, but gagles of tourists to battle.

    cheers fnq

Fnq it's good camping in the national park, well shaded and right at the beach with a small creek in behind. There are no toilets or showers but it's a short drive back into Bramston, well worth a look.
