    Brisbane river mud crabs

Has anyone has tried crabbing the brisbane river, ok I suppose everyone has or will have now, but in particular the upper reaches. Just wondering about the quality of the crabs given the slow tidal flow and the stuff the dump into the river, ie the meat works and treatment plant.

    Hi Steve,

Have seen blokes crabbing around the Moggil Ferry area and catching some good ones. Pros occasionally will put pots in as far as the Uni. Haven't tried eating any yet but reckon it would be okay as long as it wasn't everyday! Plenty of prawns around the Oxley Creek mouth on incomming tide too.

    Regards,
    Richo

Thanks dave but the missus wont let me play with the net in the house, they take the fun out of everything, but I suppose that's what you get when you try to catch the cat with it.

Went crabbing in the river last Wednesday, from Southbank upstream, way past the old Tennyson powerhpuse, or where it used to be. First pot at Southbank, big Sandie...Yep..Big. Finished with 4 good Bucks, 6 good Jennies (Yes they went back) several undersized, mixed sex, and a lot of Moses Perch (undersized) in the pots. Dont know how you worry about pollution up that far when the s..t shute is at Pinkenba ??
Dont know of any meatworks or treatment plants up that far.
And have been eating muddies and fish out of the river in that area since the 50's and still alive.

Maybe that is what makes me love me beer so much ???
