    Question Gas Camping BBQs

I have been looking around for a good camping BBQ. It needs to be lightweight, a good packable shape, small (2 burner) and one that heats up to a really good steak cooking temperature.

I have been scouring the net, but nothing seems to be on the market that meets all of my checklist.
Has anyone else found a problem finding one?

The round BBQs don't get anywhere near hot enough, the square household BBQs on stands are too bulky, and the camp stove doesn't cook enough food on it at once.

I may have to modify a household one....any ideas?

Best I have found is called a " HotOzi" bbq i think made by gasmate. Got mine from Camping World here in NSW. They are lightweight , good to cook on and clean, hold a heap of food and have their own carry case.
Cost me about $70.00 and use it every time we go camping or fishing or even just down the river .
    Usual disclaimers re brands,affiliation etc.

The cheapest option is just to get a standard 2-burner gas stove and buy a small hotplate to fit. They heat up real hot, but the downside is they're not that adjustable in heat because they run on high pressure (no regulator) and therefore use more gas. They're also quite small, so no good for a tribe of hungry blokes.

Not ideal, but cheap and portable though.

    Good luck,
    Mike

I recently got one of those Coleman Two burner jobs, it does the job and gets hot enough to sear a steak if i cant be bothered to fire up the webber. I also got the foldaway kitchen stand, together they are a nice setup and a good backup for home.
    cheers

I have a 3-burner Coleman gas cooker. The big burner is 15000 btus and is better than my gas cooker at home! Bloody hot bloody quickly ... but not small and cheap.

Look for a set up that has a 5000 and an 800 BTU burner. Gives you the best of both worlds and then buy some cast iron cooking gear. Season it properly and the whole lot will last you for years.
