    17 whaler engine size?

I am having a 17 whaler imported to me from a faimly member in the states. No engine.. What size/make do you recommend?

I'm thinking a 50hp is all I need, but the boat says it is best with 130 or so.. i think that is over kill...

Which model - centre console? Don't have any experience on that boat, but I see that Boston Whaler recommend between 60 and 90hp for the 17 cc. Looking at the specs, fitted with a 60 it performed ok (just) with next to no weight (about 190kg fuel and bodies only), but I'd think that it'd be a dog with a 50 and a realistic load. A Suzuki 70 would probably make for a good compromise as long as you didn't plan to load it too heavily.

Nice looking boat, with a good rep though - enjoy.

Merc 90 4 stroke, subject to weight restrictions on the vessels' transom.
Better too much than not enough, especially because there will be a lot of people begging for an outing!
VERY nice boat, IMO, worthwhile fitting a good motor, that will last.
    Cheers and enjoy!

yes it is the 17 montauk. 1998 and it great shape. The engine was stolen.

I'll start browsing the classfieds around here and see if ic an pick up a 4 stroke in the 90 range.

I'll post details on the import once it happens for sure, for those who PM'd me.

    Thanks
    jack
