Moreton island. It's the best place I've ever fished purely for the variety of fishing styles and fish species available in such a small area. All sorts of sportfish like cobia, yellowtail king, mackerel, trevally and god knows what else are available at various times of the year, as well as your bread and butter species like bream, dart, whiting and flathead. It's one of those few places where you always have a choice of species and ways to fish.

I was lucky enough to fish the Ribbons for a range of different species.

The sheer size of some of the critters and massive variety did it for me! I'm yet to see anything that compares, although I know they're out there.

Fresh - Harris Hut on the upper Noosa river during the week (some 25 years ago). Arrive late Sunday and leave Friday lunch time see no one else for the week.

Salt - even longer ago as a kid, fishing the reefs of Cairns. No green zones, no crowds, no rules.

The whitsundays are one of the more unique fishing areas in QLD.One of the few places small boats have access to reef fishing while you sleep in a 5 star hotel each night

Bomber Creek, a bit south of Townsville. Access is by boat only, very tidal (you can only get in and out on the top half of the tide), normally requires a bit of a beating crossing parts of Bowling Green Bay, usually the only boat there.

A reef about 15-20 minutes steaming from Lizard Island, it's unbelievable up there.

The water. Yep, never caught a fish anywhere else, but whenever I throw my line in the water I know I'm a chance. I'm sure there's no better place and I'm also sure that millions will back me up. Don't tell anyone though, this'll be just our little secret.

Spent a few days on Melville a couple years back. Fishing was sensational. Three of us caught and released over 200 fish in total comprised of 14 different species. Unforgettable stuff.

But for sheer beauty and nature at its best its hard to go past the Severn River in the back of Emmaville for the most scenic and relaxed fishing. Even taking into consideration all the paddling.
