    Barra Sth Alligator Style

    Hi all
Well i just returned from 9 nice relaxing days of fishing and relaxing in the top end spent 4 days in darwin where i went on a bluewater charter we landed about 14 nice fingermark and i nice jew on the trip plus lots of vermin, i then went out to kakadu with river and reef for 5 days and 4 nights fishing the south alligator river 3 people to the boat plus the skipper we had perry from the sunshine coast for 3 days and myself and a mate from texas (usa) the first day was a blinder with the boat landing more fish in 1 day than we landed in the whole trip last year 11 barra a lot of these fish were only small 45-65 plus 1 about 77cm and another at 81 cm most of these were caught at the rookerie birds every where and casting in tight water, we then moved to a small outlet off the river where we landed a few fish one of perry's going 91 cm then back to base for rum and sleep
days 2 saw us back at the rookerie i hooked up five times only to get 1 small fish in the boat lost 1 about 75cm it was like i had a quick release button on the rod fish would come to the side of the boat and just let go bugger, we went back to our inlet from the day before perry landing some nice fish and frank got into the action as well landing a couple as well, day three we headed to the brook 90 klm down stream at the mouth of the river rumour had it that the big barra had at last come into the river if only a few of them so afyer 20 mintutes trolling an express train hit my lure 15 feet behind a fallen tree and headed straight for the snag as this river is not very wide i thumbed the braid and we towed him away from the branches and got him to the boat photo's taken and fish released he went 86 cm thought this was going to be a great day but as luck would have it this was our only fish on day three the brook can be a bit hit and miss but there are some big fish in there as i seen photo's of a fw 107 taken out of there on thursday and a few hundreds plus they lost a few horses as well, day four we headed back to out little inlet and frank landed a nice 91cm barra and an 83 cm fish and started to rub in the fact that he now had the biggest fish 2 years running not to be out done i had a few more casts and hooked up again and up came a nice 96cm barra bugger 4 cm short of the metre mark and frank would not let me get the mallet out to try and flatten it to make the metre.

day 5 was very quite i dropped to fish frank dropped1 fish and mike who joined s on thursday as perry went home dropped a fish as well only 1 fish boated by the skipper.
all in all had a great time still a bit to much water there yet maybe next week the time should be spot on i will try and attached photo's

Great report & pics Shane, I'm yet to fish the Sth Alligator River myself. What was the camp like there & cost per/day if you dont mind me asking.
I've fished a few other camps & always looking at options.

    Cheers

Gday Shane, sounds like you had a good trip, but you must have run over the same black cat I did, that whole tossing of lures thing sounds very familiar, in the end we were just calling it a good release, made us feel better.
Have sent you a pm re the collision between the two guides.

    cheers
    Brian
