What Sort Of Fish Is It

Hi guys, my son came running inside to me today and was shouting mum come look, there is BIG fish in our creek, I said naaa cant be, we dont get Big fish this far up the creek, he said we have, we have, so I went for a walk just down a little and saw them 3 big ones, one just near our home laying near the tunnels, and 2 other bigger ones on the other side of our tunnel..Potty mullet had had a good feed, so had the muddies by the look, but "WHAT" type is it, to me it looks like some sort of mackerel, they were a fair size, I wonder what happened for them to be right up where we are??????

Can anyone identify exactly what type they are..Poor Blighters..
They look small in the pics but they were a few kilos I can tell ya..

Why are they this far up?? So weird, unless a shark has driven them, then they have lost thier way maybe??

Why dump 3 good size mactuna??? What a waste of life, if they didnt want them, then they should of released them..
We have a nice long run off of the Tally creek..When high tides come thru it can get quiet lovely..

We have had a good run of big bucks this season here in the creek, so maybe they dumped them to atrract some, who knows, just seems weird, they are decent size fish.

Fair enough they're decent sized but they are mac tuna, no good to eat.

Why do people dump things?? your guess is as good as mine.

At the ramp thismorning when I came in, there was a dead stingray on the ramp that had one of its wings cut off....... you work that out

Could be that someone had been sharking as sting ray flap is a killer bait.......no excuse for dumping the rest though. Also, when you flap 'em, the liver drops out and apart from making good berley, it is also a delicacy amongst some ethnic folk. Yolgnu style the stigray is gutted and the liver kept. The ray is boiled and then the meat is separated from the cartilage. Some re boil the meat and then rub the raw liver through the meat. The meat is then rolled into balls and eaten either as they are or in coconut milk. You can add some Thai spices to the coconut milk and you have a proper gourmet meal.

If you want to try eating stingie, there is some good recipes here:

Also, any recipes applicable to skate work with stingray

Your so right there, thats why, if they were dumped, what a waste of life. Its disgusting.
I have not tasted what they taste like, but I'm all for releasing if its not your cup of tea....
Fishing is all "about" looking after our waters, and its future..As well as enjoyment, and Baking some catches..

But the SAD and horrid thing is, you will always get the ones that DONT GIVE a dam..
